Giving shape to a maverick brand in an online space in which users are challenged to break all the norms.
Bureau Populaire is a creative think-tank, a collection of artistically designed products and a collective space for connecting, creating and, at its core, breaking established conventions.
Founders Marc Henry and Timotheus Überall asked STUDIO—Y to design and build a digital space that could house their collection, generate sales and spark interest for their future projects.
Looking to create more than just a website, they wanted to reflect on and determine their brand so that the Bureau Populaire online experience would be a natural extension of its products and endeavours.
An extensive strategy period preceded the website design. We uncovered the maverick personality of Bureau Populaire and found a visual language to match: a style inspired by logistics and software design from the 80s, a period of growing technological possibilities and change that matches the brand's forward-thinking nature.
Using the medium of the web to surprise and entice the user was paramount, as was breaking web design norms to spread the message to never stop hopping fences.
